College Friends, City Views and Stinking Roses
We had an unplanned college reunion this month when our friends came to San Francisco on the same weekend. Tasha and Will Hussman drove up from Monterey. They went to Beach Blanket Babylon and loved it as well, btw. Chad Hines came from Detroit for a conference -- lucky us! We were all in the same ward at BYU-Idaho while Todd and I were dating. What a blast from the past! We spent Saturday together checking out some San Francisco favorites.
Twin Peaks -- always a great view. On sunny days like this you can see the Golden Gate, Oakland, the Pacific Ocean and the bridges down the bay.
We also went to Alamo Square for a picnic... if you are hip on your late-80's and early-90's shows, it's the park across the street from the Victorian houses where the show "Full House" was set.
Garlic anyone? So the Stinking Rose lived up to its name and gave us a taste of all things garlic. This is located in North Beach, of course, and it was a unique experience.
For starters... a garlic spread. Yes, you just spread these garlic cloves like butter on a roll. Surprisingly tasty, but with two cloves to each roll... you can only imagine.
Tasha & Will getting ready to dig in! The food was really good. And after the appetizer, you really didn't notice that the food was infused in garlic as well.
Chad had the lobster, which I think is fed garlic before they boil it up for customers.
BUT... no matter how immune we were to the taste of the "stinking rose" by the end of the meal, you could not miss the pungent aftertaste in the garlic icecream. We were all brave and took a bite, but seriously, no thanks! We left this one on the table.
